Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is expressive arts therapy (EXA)?

Expressive Arts Therapy is different from Art Therapy, and both are not art lessons. This is a time and space to express your unique self and trust the process of the unknown. EXA uses two or more combinations of the arts in a session, which brings about a crystallization of the image, and possibly a deeper meaning for the client when we harvest the process after creation time.

What is sandtray therapy? Miniatures are used in a tray of sand to externalize what has been internalized by the client. For adults, archetypal & symbolic patterns may be revealed; for children, it is a therapeutic play arena!

The arts are a natural healing modality in the treatment of trauma, as they work from the lower part of the brain stem (limbic), up to the prefrontal cortex.

Do you offer art or music lessons?

Not at this time.

Will my insurance cover these sessions?

I am covered by most insurance providers. Please contact your provider if they cover RTC (Registered Therapeutic Counsellor), a designation from the Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists (ACCT).

Is expressive arts therapy helpful for me if I’m an adult?

Especially because you are an adult! Through trauma and/or tending to life’s many distractions, we may have forgotten, or never have learned, how to play or be playful. Perhaps we have been embarrassed or shamed about our art, music, or movement making as children. Our bodies and spirit-nature are connected to a creative source, and sometimes we need help re-connecting to this energy to begin the healing process.

Do you work with young children?

I work with youth who are generally 19 years of age and older. If you have a special request, please feel free to call me for a free consultation.

How does Biofield Tuning work?

Unweighted and weighted forks are used in the biofield that surrounds the body. Weighted forks can be used as a vibrational tool on the body. The vibration from the specific frequencies of the forks reflect the sounds of the stuck emotions and traumas that the body is holding, and restores them back to a healthy tone in the body, allowing flow. You literally get a tune up which grounds the nervous system.
